I recently browsed YouTube checking out for latest news on “Amway scam” and a few similar sounding words. For my surprise the video titles were immediately matching but content was something else! Everyone in the video started with the topic to talk about how bad was Amway and only to end with contradiction to the title of the video. There are many Amway defenders on the internet these days. Notable defenders go to an extent of reaching out every website and blogger’s asked stupid questions by those apologists.
What is so great about Amway? No idea, because everyone knows more than half of the people do nothing after signing up, because of different reasons. They already heard of Amway and that well-wisher who signed him up boasted too much or any other reasons. Another half of the sign ups quit within six months to years time and people like me who do everything for a year or a little more than that realize how much money we’re losing end up quitting too. So who will remain in the business, one who does not have anything else to do, my emerald up line used to tell ‘they do not want to sit back and watch TV at home so they turn up for weekly open meetings’; ones who simply cannot take their own decisions or even the ones who do not look into their personal finance. How about the products? Everyone says they’re expensive but I say they are the luxurious FMCG! Cost per usage is somewhat comparable with a few products but they last so long that, most of the people end up wasting their money on those products. Typical example is car wash or a home care product. You are supposed to use for hundred times but after two months you do not feel the high price pinch and sometimes it spills over or someone overuses it thinking in similar lines comparable to market etc. Inevitable result – buy what you do not need and spend without necessity.
Amway apologists may say that you are supposed to use your products wisely without causing any wastage. Absolutely true and that’s why you call Amway is source of Mass Deception! What next? In all those videos presenters boasted about the company being in the existence since 1960s. How many times Amway changed name, innumerous! Amway, Alticor, Quixtar, Amway Global – that I am aware of and many more names in various countries which we may not even know. If Amway is so great, and people come on boasting for the sake of it, why is the word hardly used by people who are affiliated to teaching systems – do the direct marketing business right way!
I was told by my up line innumerous occasions about the importance of teaching system. He kept telling everyone in open gatherings ‘I can do lakhs of turnover with mere LOC and Dish Drops with system but without system I will still fail even if there are hundreds of products’. With that he literally tells you to do everything system recommended. Then why do you need Amway products? Only to ensure safety in the eyes of rules and regulations. It is unfortunate that even after thousands of horror stories on the net newbies continued to get sucked by monsters. I browsed through the web regarding MLMs being scam almost without any exception. Here are a few useful links which should tell you what is a scam and hopefully you can avoid falling into the trap.
Here we go! Claims after claims on quitters and on prospects who decline to join and the worst of all was a claim made by my up line last week over my former downline. I am going to narrate what happened when my up line called the downline who had quit almost along with me. Let us see that downline’s profile – a person who works during night shift all the time and has his weekly holidays not on Saturdays and Sundays but during the middle of the week, not married so not a readymade 100PV per month, stays in a paying guest kind of an accommodation, has his education loan outstanding, was showing a few plans here and there, irregularly regular to functions and system tools, and all importantly my up line had called him as ‘I replaced him already from my list, you can not build business based on his commitments, sponsor more in width outside his group/depth’.
I had told this person that, boss this September and our up line is likely to call you to renew your subscription. He did not believe me because he had told my up line about his disinterest a few months back. So my so called silver qualified up line called this person and started with a casual talk – which was also expected, ‘hi, how are you long time, how is work’ etc. Then he started with ‘what would you do if you do not do Amway?’. My downline replied, ‘I don’t think I can do Amway business with my schedule and if I have to put so much effort – which is well beyond 12-15 hours a week part time – I can do anything and succeed’. This made my up line angry it seems. He ended up shouting what can you do man, the income in your job that you get entire year, our diamond can make in ten days! This was a fatal remark from a so called humble guy, speaks nice, excuses people, has leadership quality of forgiveness and moving on, follows system to the core where it is taught – never hurt someone’s ego, work in noble cause and add whatever so called ideal things to follow. Until then my down line was not that perturbed, but this remark put my down line on to offensive. He replied, ‘world is not flat, each person is different and will have different background and opportunities, whatever Amway diamond can make in a year, Bill Gates can make in ten days as well, but I cannot start another Microsoft’. My greatest up line had no answer for that, and he started with other things. Why do not use supplements for your mother and yourself this that and stories knowing that they cannot afford 50PV products every month consistently. This indicated one thing, he was so desperate to get fifty PVs from an IBO who had never done much and was already out of the business.
I remember posting another article saying – Do not whine about quitters in this blog a few months back. I mentioned how my up line tortured me not to talk about a new or old IBO who quit or did not do anything. Remember, I was not a so called leader in Amway – being at 6%, but what about the great leader who achieved silver pin and was an Eagle by that time parameters. I continue to write this blog not to influence your decision, but if you have brain you can see how badly Amway cults are Hippocratic. I cannot argue with any Amway apologists when it comes to argument per se, but in reality – Amway opportunity and it’s cult teaching systems are worst ever. This is the reason why my blog has the title – Financial Suicide (which also includes mental disorder). I cannot use bad words here, but I know how dark people are in Amway business and do not allow them to rule your life before you realize. No one does something for nothing!
Many times prospects ask the question – very genuine one – how much are you making? How long have you been in the business? All Amway core IBOs are taught one thing, read books, listen to CDs and associate in functions and meetings with other IBOs. Here is where all the well framed readymade answers are taught, there are books with readymade question and answers. So the title of this post “I already have a big business coming up” is one from my system experiences. What rubbish sentence is that? What is the thing that you already have and it is still coming up! Hilarious answer it looks and the reason behind such answers is hidden agenda to conceal and confuse. The cults are also taught to not to answer all the questions, did you remember some IBO saying, “let us say I answer all your queries, will you sign up for the business?”. This is also part of teaching, for every question reply with an open ended opposite question, prospects normally get confused and have no clue about what Amway is all about.
Once you start asking questions, the conversation is controlled by you and not the prospect. If you are controlling conversation, you mostly end up convincing prospect that, he does not know much and therefore his doubts are not valid until he joins the business. Next biggest question is how long have you been there in the business? For this, there are a few answers that are taught, “I have been in the business for last couple of years and I do this business part time”. Unfortunately, I heard all platinums, emeralds and diamonds using the same phrase, “last couple of years” almost everyday, either through CDs or directly – face-to-face. I know enough people who have been in the business for at least eight years who have not qualified beyond platinum or emerald. Remember Amway qualifications are only forever, you reach platinum once and you’re called platinum IBO until you quit, even though in reality you might be making 6% commission.
Next question a prospect will ask – how much money are you making? Genuine question and here is the confusing answer and leading question in return – “whatever I am making does not matter to you as my business and your business is going to be different, but I can take you to meet enough people who make Rs 50,000 or more on a monthly basis. Shall I ask you something? Let us say me and Sachin Tendulkar both play cricket for 15years but will I ever become Sachin Tendulkar? No. Therefore, if you decide (just deciding makes you rich?) to become big in Amway who is there to stop you?”. What a wonderful answer is it not? The question was how much money are you making and he conveniently avoids the purpose of the discussion. Of course, all the above look correct in terms of examples and analogies (built over 40years of refining). But if you are not willing to commit something personally about your income level in the business and you ask your prospect to submit himself to the sponsor why should he do so, or why should he join this IBOs business? This is how the obeying/submission starts, “do not ask questions, system has been there for decades, join and check out”. So once you start thinking in the direction of the sponsor, you are committed for financial suicide. All the best Amway or MLM prospects 🙂
